Fabric: Minerva Exclusive Enchanted Vision Linen Viscose Blend Fabric
Pattern: Simplicity 9590
I just finished sewing Simplicity 9590 and what a pattern! I really enjoy wearing overalls and was really excited to sew and create this pattern! This pattern is classified as easy, and I would agree! It does require a lot of topstitching, which I am not a fan of doing personally, and which I skipped over for the most part in this pattern, but aside from that it’s really easy to put together. I think the most difficult part for me was putting together the faux placket at the crotch seam, but even that was not too difficult! I used this gorgeous Minerva Viscose Linen in order to make the overalls. I really wanted something bold and bright that would take this from a practical overall and piece of clothing to something more fun and fashionable that I can wear out and to different events. I think it strikes a really nice balance.
The hardware is really minimal. I only added one button to each side, but I think I’m going to go back in and add an additional button to help with the gaping but aside from that the hardware was really easy to install. I did View A which goes all the way to my ankles. I’m not really a fan of a cropped pants like in View B so that’s why I decided to go with a full length leg and View A. I cut a size medium and I would definitely say it is a pattern that runs true to size. It fits me really nicely and it only took a few hours to complete! This is for sure a pattern I would make again. I enjoyed making this pattern and can definitely see myself doing it again in linen!
I love a good pair of overalls! I think they are a practical piece of clothing that can easily be made extremely fashionable and that is what happens when I combine Simplicity Pattern 9590 with this gorgeous Minerva linen material! This print of the pattern is so fun and flirty! It is going to be the perfect staple for spring and summer because it’s so bright and bold and colorful, which I really love! Let’s talk about the fabric! I’ve said it so many times before, but I love the Minerva Viscose Linen! It has a nice structure to it so it’s really easy to work with. It doesn’t wrinkle as easily as other linen fabric when I’m working with it and even when I’m wearing it. The colors of the prints are always so bright and vibrant and colorful. They really make such a bold statement.
I use both my sewing machine and my serger and the linen works amazingly well with both. The fabric is extremely breathable and even though it has a little bit of structure to it, it still has a beautiful flow. Whether I make pants or a button down top or overalls, the fabric really lends itself to whatever project I am making. It’s not itchy or scratchy like some other linens. It’s very comfortable on my skin. I really enjoy working with it and really enjoy the look of the garment when it’s finished because the fabric is just that good! I definitely plan on making this pattern again and definitely plan on using this fabric to make some shorts again and more keyboard sets. If you’re looking for a great spring and even summer staple fabric, I would definitely check out this linen!
