Ethically and Sustainably Produced
Excited to announce I've partnered with Stripe Climate and now 5% of total revenue from Terrance Williams Designs contributes to removing Carbon from the atmosphere! So excited to join other businesses in this effort and continue my fight for climate change and sustainability! Read more about the initiative here!
The Fabric
The fabric used comes from a few different sources but all of them have one thing in common; they are produced ethically. The factories meet the strict safety guidelines and workers are treated humanly and paid fairly.
Fabric sourced through Spoonflower, such as the fabric for the headbands and wristlets, is produced in a sustainable process that uses only a thimble of water, drastically reducing the amount of water used and waste needed to create the fabric. More information can be found here.
Most patterns are created to use all of the fabric. (If 2 yards of fabric are needed, then almost all two yards of fabric will be used.) For any leftover scrap fabric, it is used to create other items such as bags and accessories or it is donated to organizations who will donate it to those in need, repurpose it for other items or use it in processes that creates renewable energy. By recycling and reusing fabric, it helps eliminate waste.
The Manufacturing
Product production, from start to finish is almost all me! I design, cut, pin, sew and ship almost every single item and every single package. Everything is done in batches and produced right here in the United States. There is no outsourcing of labor. By producing on a small scale and making each item custom, it helps reduce the amount of overstock and over production that eventually leads to waste.
All items are shipped through USPS and are picked up by the post office. By scheduling this service, it drastically reduces the personal need to travel back and forth to the post office daily, resulting in less carbon emissions and pollution.
Shopping and buying fabric locally helps to be able to support the local businesses and the local economy. This is crucial for community growth and opportunities.
The Packaging
The poly mailers used to ship the items are made from 100% recycled materials from the company EcoEnclose. The mailers are reusable, made in the United States and can be recycled. Even the tissue paper used to wrap the items is made from 100% recycled materials and can be reused. All packaging from shipments of products that I receive (fabric, business cards, supplies, etc.) are always recycled according to local laws and regulations.
