Fabric: Minerva Exclusive Tropic Daze Viscose Challis Fabric
Pattern: McCalls 8314
It’s no secret I love working with the viscose challis from Minerva and these are my favorite things about the material:
1. Soft and Flowy: Viscose challis fabric has a nice softness and drapes beautifully, making it great for creating flowing clothes like dresses, skirts, and blouses and this romper
2. Breathable and Comfortable : Its breathable so it keeps me comfortable in warmer weather, making it perfect for Texas summer.
3. Easy to Sew: Viscose challis is generally easy to sew with, even for beginners, because it’s lightweight and doesn't slip or stretch like a knit.
4. Versatile: Because of the high-quality and the drape and how much it flows, you can make anything from casual wear to more formal pieces
5. Minimal Wrinkling: While it can wrinkle somewhat, it tends to not wrinkle as easily or as much!
I used this viscose challis to make McCall’s 8314 in view A
Mccalls 8314 is a pattern that I have had in my pattern stash for a while! I love a good jumpsuit and this one was classified as easy so I was really excited to grab it and work with it in this gorgeous viscose challis. Overall, I would say the pattern is really easy to put together. I think the most difficult aspect of it was doing the placket in the front. It called for Hook and eyes, but I decided to add buttons. I really enjoy using the button making feature on my sewing machine and any chance that I have to add buttons, I definitely will take that opportunity! So I used clear buttons on the romper. I like that there were a few different versions that you could make. I went with View A which is a short romper. I thought it would be perfect for the spring and summer here in Texas and when I eventually go on vacation. This is the perfect little vacation romper because it’s so loose and flowy and fun. I think the belt adds a nice touch to the pattern. It’s definitely a pattern that I would make again and aside from the placket and undertaking the facing, I would definitely consider this an easy to sew pattern. Definitely a pattern that you could do in an afternoon, if you have a few spare hours and want to make something quick and easy!
Another make with this gorgeous viscose challis material! I really love working with this fabric because it is so light and airy and breathable. It’s perfect for the spring and summer and it has a really nice flow to it. There’s just something about wearing this fabric and feeling it blow in the breeze you just feel so majestic! It’s really nice to work with. It’s a lightweight and breathable. Even when you wash it it’s still keeps it lightweight and breathable consistency. It’s really easy to sew with. I just use clips to keep everything in place and it irons out really nicely. You don’t get a lot of wrinkles when you work with it. And I really like the pattern of this fabric. It’s giving me tropical vacation vibes. I really enjoy it! If you’re the type of person that is sort of into prints and is more into neutrals, you’ll definitely like this fabric because it’s a great mix of both. I really love the tropical leaves and the color is subtle, but still a little bold. I think I really love working with this fabric because there’s so much that you can do with it. Whether it’s tops or dresses or pants, everything that I have made with the viscose challis always turns out really great and it’s always really comfortable to wear. Comfort is really important to me in the fact that this fabric just feels so nice against my skin really draws me to it every time.
