Fabric: Minerva Core Range Medium Loop Back French Terry Stretch Knit Fabric
Pattern: Simplicity Paper Sewing Pattern 9718
My first ever polo shirt! I made Simplicity 9718. This is definitely a pattern that I would make again! I cut a size 40 and I think if I make it again, I’ll definitely go down a size. But I still really like the fit! This was a relatively easy pattern to do! I have never done plackets before, so that was the only tricky part. But after getting some help and some clearer instructions, Doing the plackets turned out to not be too difficult and I think they turned out great for my first time! After I finished the placket and the collar, the rest of the pattern was a breeze! Definitely a pattern I will make again.
I used the Minerva Core Range Medium Loop Back French Terry Stretch Knit Fabric in light blue. I think this is the perfect fabric for this polo! It is soft and has a lot of stretch. I like that the material stretches both ways and has a nice bounce back. I found it very easy to work with and even after washing, it still kept its structure and vivid color. I also like that this French Terry comes in so many different colors! You can literally find any color color that you would want in this material. This pattern requires a contrasting rib net that I used in a cream color. I think this is the perfect color combination For spring and summer!
Overall, I really enjoyed working with this fabric! It definitely has some really good four-way stretch! I like that it is a bit of a structured knit. It’s not going to feel super soft and plush like a sweatshirt knit, instead it’s going to have some weight and structure. I like that you can definitely tell which side is the right side and the wrong side looking at the material. I love how there is little to no fraying with the material. When I decide to make another polo, this will definitely be my go to material to make one! I also like how it’s comfortable, breathable, and easy to work with!
