Know Me Sewing Pattern 2054. Black male wearing a fleece sweatshirt with a hood.

Know Me Sewing Pattern 2054 made with Polar Fleece in the color Neon Green from Minerva. Fabric available HERE.

The Minerva core range polar fleece fabric is one of the warmest fleece fabric that I have ever worked with. Currently here in Dallas Texas, it is freezing, and when I went outside to take these photos, I was so warm in this fleece! This fleece is such high-quality there was no shedding as I was cutting it. It was so soft and luxurious. It feels like butter under my hands. I got the neon green color and it is such a stand out color! You can see it from a mile away. The fabric also has amazing stretch. As I took this sweatshirt on and off, it was easily able to stretch and fit as I put it on.

I used the fleece to make Know Me 2054. Everyone has been making this pattern, and now I understand why! It was such a quick and easy make! I definitely recommend this for ambitious beginners! The sweatshirt features a hood and drawstring and these dramatic shoulder blades that I thought we’re going to be intimidating, but we’re actually very easy to make and install and they are probably my favorite part of the sweatshirt! The way you make these shoulder blades is really simple! You cut out the pattern pieces and you apply interfacing to the one side. You sew them together with the wrong sides together and then you flip them right sides out. And then you just do a simple straight stitch a couple centimeters/inches apart all the way down the shoulder blade design! So it truly is a bunch of slightly curved stitches next to each other. It took me about 10 minutes to do each shoulder blade with the stitches, but it was totally worth it because the end product is so awesome!

The sleeves have cuffs and elastic at the wrist which I really enjoy. The sweatshirt is a little cropped. The next time I make it, I will definitely be making it into a dress! I think the color of the fleece makes this stand out even more! I just used my sewing machine in order to put it all together, but if you wanted to use a serger, that would be a perfectly suitable option as well! It only took a few hours to complete, and along with the fleece, you really just need elastic and interfacing for the shoulder blades. If you wanted to use grommets in the hood you could, but I did not do that step. I love how it turned out! It’s super cozy!
